February 29, 2012 has officially been declared as Carlos Condit Day in Albuquerque, N.M., the hometown and residence of UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit.
The day was celebrated in front of local media at the new Jackson’s Martial Arts and Fitness with a proclamation from Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry. Condit was also honored in front of thousands of fans at halftime of the Univ. of New Mexico men’s basketball game at The Pit, one of the nation’s legendary college athletics facilities.
“It was so humbling to see so many local residents, including many friends and family, attend the various festivities today,” Condit said. “It is an honor to receive so much recognition in my hometown, the city that I love and where I am building my family.”
Condit, who trains at Jackson’s Submission Fighting in Albuquerque, holds a 28-5 professional record (5-1 UFC), has won his last five fights and 13 of his last 14 bouts overall, which includes his run in the WEC. Three of his last four wins have ended via KO/TKO.
In his last fight, Condit won a unanimous decision over Nick Diaz to earn the UFC’s Interim Welterweight title. Check out page two for images of Condit’s ceremony provided by Will Fox.
