February 29, 2012 has officially been declared as Carlos Condit Day in Albuquerque, N.M., the hometown and residence of UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit.

The day was celebrated in front of local media at the new Jackson’s Martial Arts and Fitness with a proclamation from Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry. Condit was also honored in front of thousands of fans at halftime of the Univ. of New Mexico men’s basketball game at The Pit, one of the nation’s legendary college athletics facilities.

“It was so humbling to see so many local residents, including many friends and family, attend the various festivities today,” Condit said. “It is an honor to receive so much recognition in my hometown, the city that I love and where I am building my family.”

Condit, who trains at Jackson’s Submission Fighting in Albuquerque, holds a 28-5 professional record (5-1 UFC), has won his last five fights and 13 of his last 14 bouts overall, which includes his run in the WEC. Three of his last four wins have ended via KO/TKO.

In his last fight, Condit won a unanimous decision over Nick Diaz to earn the UFC’s Interim Welterweight title. Check out page two for images of Condit’s ceremony provided by Will Fox.

  2. Night-Wind says:

Yeah i wouldn’t show that piece of fake that much. Better to it keep somewhere hidden. Georges is going to wipe that smile away, guarantee.

  3. guamy says:

funny carlos condit day falls on the same day as national marathon day.
    Run Los Run.

  4. Thom says:

Maybe one day he will ”run” for mayor.

  5. Jason says:

do they have reverse marathons on condit day?
PS: im a condit fan but his last fight i was dissapointed

  6. slacker says:

Right on Carlos! Congrats! You better look out Georges.

  7. Serg says:

I think condit has great skill, a true well rounded striker and endurance to keep it up. Too bad I didn’t get to see it on the last fight. I thought mma was based on the fact that fighters comPete to show who is more dominant as a martial artist but I guess point striking means your a better fighter these days.

It’s simply the safest way to win a “fight”, and some camps have made it a mission to figure out clever ways to manipulate the North American MMA scoring system in order to win rounds & remain relevant in the sport. It’s cold & calculating.

Personally, I think it hurts the sport, in various ways.

    • I agree. I think Condit-Diaz was like watching a puppy play with an older dog. The pup jumps around with energy while biting the ears, tail, and anything he can get a hold of. He won’t get in front of the older dog though. All while the older dog never loses it’s ground. Yet when the older dog gets tired of it, he can end it whenever he wants. Except if the bell already rung. lol!

NM suck bro who you kidding

  9. DLo says:

I get mad every time I think of Carlos. I was watching the interviews of him discussing how it was going to be a war, and he was coming to knock Nick’s head off, and all this stuff. I just shake my head and turn my tv off. I’m very disappointed in Carlos right now. He didn’t fight to win, but to survive. There’s a difference. He was afraid of fighting or getting hit by Nick, which is why he ran. His feet wasn’t even planted when he did decide to take a swing at Nick.

  10. G says:

He bearly beat, by decision (the weakest way to “beat someone”), a top-contender for a chance to fight G.S.P., he didn’t fucking save the city.

  11. Sweet game plan says:

BAH ! They name a day after the dude and the haters start hating. If anything hate on Ellenberger he got the key to his city and he’s never even fought for a belt. At least Condit has a interim and was the former WEC champ.. And the WEC was no scrub organization either.. I read this yesterday on bloody elbow and they were lots and lots giving him congrads!! I said to myself if this gets to b.j Penn .com.. Their won’t be much there..

  12. ROADWARRIOR says:

GSP… Hates Americans… He was quoted saying Americans dont have honor when they fight… and they dont respect martial arts! Hey GSP these colors dont run! I fought in Gulf war… I didnt c any Canadian flags backing us. You want to talk respect and honor.

  13. I’m very happy for him, i watched his fights since a long time ago, he’s one of the best at WW, if not the best… Just because he won by decision this time doesn’t mean he’s not a great fighter, you guys are just moment haters who can’t aprecciate each and every style of fighting, just wanna see finishes, lucky punches and shit… He did more than great against a great contender… Look at what happened to the last guy who thought he had more power than Diaz in Strikeforce, or to BJ, you have to be the dumbest fuck if you think being in front of Diaz is gonna get you a win.. After all, this guys live from the money they get from winning, he did not cheat or anything, he won fair and square and that’s all it is… Besides if Diaz was that good, he would have finish the fight anyway instead of taunting Condit expecting him to put his head in front of his punches… Reading at the comments just make me think that almost everybody now think they know MMA, but you are just fans who wanna see a show, not a sport… (gameplannig is the base of almost each and every sport in the planet, expect the same with MMA considering there’s so many martial arts to use, and stop being dumbasses who just wanna see dummies go straight to their targets throwing overhands and haymakers)

  14. Sully says:

Correct me if I’m worng but wasn’t Greg Jackson in GSP’s corner in his last fight? Will he have to choose who to back between Condit and St Pierre?

  15. Bobastrazi says:

Everyone is celebrating by running backwards for 25 minutes around their fence.

  16. Sweet game plan says:

No we don’t just mma ..and it’s funny though fighters from all other states want in..

  17. MattD. says:

He has accomplished alot in MMA, like him or not.
