Phil Davis vs. Lyoto Machida Set For UFC 140 (UPDATED)

Lyoto Machida diehards can rest easier knowing the former champion has finally booked a return trip to the Octagon.
According to a report coming out of mmaweekly.com, UFC president Dana White recently confirmed with the news outlet that he has booked Machida to face Phil Davis at the upcoming UFC 140 event set for December.
UFC 140 is set to take place in Toronto on December 10 from the Air Canada Centre. So far the only main card bouts confirmed for the event are set between Rory MacDonald vs. Brian Ebersole, Tito Ortiz vs. “Lil Nog” and Frank Mir vs. “Big Nog” which will likely serve as the evening’s main event. We can now add Lyoto Machida vs. Phil Davis to the growing list of talent scheduled for the night.
Machida has not seen action since this past April when he took out UFC hall-of-famer, Randy Couture in a vicious second-round knockout via front kick to the face. Prior to the victory Machida had suffered back-to-back losses to both Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
Davis is coming in after having to withdraw from his scheduled meeting with Rashad Evans after suffering an injury in training. The undefeated NCAA Division 1 National Wrestling Champion has beaten the likes of Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and most recently Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and has earned a spot amongst the divisions elite athletes.
While this bout is yet to be announced by the UFC it is expected to take place on the evening main card and could possibly serve as a five-round non-title fight according to the initial report.

NICE!!! i totally called it!
so if davis can take out machida, will he be lined up for a title shot of Jones or Evens
if Phil like blows through machida, the need to give him a title shot!
Machida by destruction
haha davis wont b blowing through anyone. davis can get in line after rashad shogun hedo machida and jackson. ur boy aint getting a title shot anytime soon. this will be a boring fight if it ever eventuates as both the cats dont like geting hit
In my opinion Machida should get Rampage and king mo should be brought to the ufc and fight phil davis
Machida by dec.. this wont be all that exciting but its an important fight for the LHW division none the less.. The winner here should get the winner of alaxander vs vlad or loser of Shad vs Jones
Why is Machida being screwed over like that? In my opinion Dana should’ve left Hendo at Strikeforce and had Shogun and Machida battle it out for the next No.1 contender spot.
Machida vs. Jones would be an extremely interesting fight in my opinion as Machida does very well from the outside (cancelling out Jones’ reach) and he also has a decent enough ground game.
Your an idiot.. Shogun already knocked him out! Your obviously out of the loop.
You must be forgetting who won their first bout Mr. “I think I know it all and act tough on the internet because in real life my mom touches my weewee”
Your an idiot EVERYONE knows Shogun won both fights and was screwed by the judges in the first fight and then came back in the second fight and made sure the judges couldn’t screw him again. Shogun has machidas number plain and simple
hahaha this Chart guy is the biggest tool. leave him alone KP bjpenn.com is the only place he feels importamt lets not take that away from him
Machida is going to **** Mr. Wonderful. Davis brings nothing to the table in this fight. His wrestling will be useless. His striking is nothing compared to Machida’s. So really all he is going to be is target practice and a dummy to toss around for Lyoto. I’m not that big of a fan or Lyoto or Davis, but I think I would rather see Lyoto against either Rashad or bones anyway.
Machida should definitely be next in line for a no1 contender spot, He’s going to dominate this one
Fighting Davis? Davis is not even close to Machidas level.. Thats a spit on the face.. Machida is going to kill him.. Machida beat rampage but got raped by a bs decision. Machida is still a top 5 lh fighter. Yeah he lost to shogun but styles make fights.. Shogun is not Jones.. I think Machida would do well vs Jones style because Machida is very elusive and a good striker.
Machida is elusive and a good striker, so is Bones, with much more of a reach advantage.
Two tasties just goin’ at it. I’m going to whack my meat to this fight.
So did Dana White jump the gun again? Won’t be surprised if Davis pulls out, he is no match for Machida.
Give machida a fight before 2012 Dana !!! Wtf
Bones will have a problem with Machida being so footloose, now this is a good fight
I don’t think he will. My money’s on Hendo or Anderson to dethrone him.
