Phil Davis Fills In For Chael Sonnen Against Forrest Griffin At UFC 155 | UFC NEWS

When Chael Sonnen got the call to host “The Ultimate Fighter” season 17 opposite Jon Jones he was forced to bow out of his scheduled UFC 155 bout with former UFC light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.
The UFC has scrambled and now just announced that Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis has agreed to step in as his replacement on the UFC 155 main PPV card.
UFC 155 is set to take place on December 29, 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event Junior dos Santos will defend his heavyweight title against former champion Cain Velasquez.
Phil Davis last saw action this past Saturday against Wagner Prado. He was able to submit his Brazilian opponent with a choke in the second round.
Griffin last saw the inside of a cage at UFC 148 where he completed a trilogy against Tito Ortiz by beating him via decision for the second straight time.

goooo Forrest!!
What happened to all those rumors saying it was going to be Bonnar?
And in all honesty what happened to Davis? After ONE loss he somehow drops to the bottom of the contender list? He should be thrown in against Machida or Shogun, hell maybe even Glover. Beating any of those guys should have a title shot for him
^^i agree. he only lost to shuga via UD. what gives?
For sure! I mean he even beat Gustaffson as well. What the hell?

Maybe Gustafsson is not as good as many fans think he is.
wtf did Davis do to deserve this, because to be fighting Forrest after only one loss, to Suga at that, I’d expect him to still be in the hunt for a shot. If he wins, so what, he’s expected to do so. If he loses, his next fight will be against someone with even less relevance than forrest. Some of these fights just haven’t been making any sense lately…
The way you guys make it sound; it should be an easy fight for Davis and if he beats Forrest who is a recognizable name in the UFC, it well open a lot of doors for him, however if he looses then he will have to climb the ladder all over again, it’s kind of like the last few fight Chuck Liddel had before he retired, fighters were using him as a stepping stone to gain recognition, Forrest is fighting way past his prime. Davis can use this fight to his benefit. Which is why he probably agreed to the fight in the first place.
He only beat Wagner Prado. Why should he fight a top 5 when he just beat a top 20-15?
He beat Lil Nog,Tim Boetsch,Brian Stan(and ran him out of the division),And Alexander Gustafsson. He’s beaten alot of Great talent @ LHW.

^^^ I agree
I don’t think it’s a matter of Davis’s status dropping. I just think he’s exciting, Forrest is a fan favorite, and, ultimately, the UFC needed someone to step up. You can’t fault him for taking a fight.
I’m alright with Davis not getting into any title picture any time soon. I think he needs to improve his striking and then he should be in the picture. He’s still young and has lots of room for improvement, he can only get better. Hopefully at the end of 2013 we can see Bones vs Davis
Griffin might be on his way out, but he’s still a big name. It will look good on Davis’record if he manages to beat him.
what happened to griffin? i used to like this guy but like most of the people here i think davis gonna wrestle him down, GnP him or worst submit him. common forest, beat davis and get back up there man!
That’s a much more difficult fight for Forrest than against Sonnen. Phil Davis is definitely my favorite LHW (besides Hendo) and he will finish this in the first round.
Forrest is still a good fighter of course, but I can’t see him getting anything out of this fight except some money.
Like most of you guys, I was hoping for an end to the Griffin vs Bonnar trilogy. That would have been a nice goodbye fight for both of them.
Not excited for this one at all.i hope Forrest can beat davis.phil is not that exciting to watch.
