Pettis on Aldo: “Of course I want that fight!”

In a recent interview with MMAJunkie, UFC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis was asked about his thoughts on a potential fight with longtime featherweight title holder Jose Aldo, his reply:

“Of course I want that fight, Why wouldn’t I?”

Pettis has been sidelined with a knee injury ever since his first-round submission victory over Benson Henderson at UFC 164, which earned him the UFC lightweight belt.

“Showtime” hopes to be ready to fight by July and believes a bout with Aldo is the only fight that really ‘makes sense':

“Who else is there?” Pettis replied. “Benson Henderson just beat Thomson, who was supposed to be the top contender. Gilbert Melendez has already had his title shot. So why not (Aldo)?

Is the ‘Aldo fight’ the only bout that makes sense for Pettis’ return?  Sound off Penn Nation!

Do you really want that fight? I know you wanted it when you weren’t the 55 kingpin and had no title, but I think it the back of your mind your a little reluctant now. No one wants to lose there title.

Great fight. Although, I haven’t seen many people agree with me that Aldo is a bit better. And when he doesn’t have to cut so much weight, he should have more in the tank to burn a little brighter.

I definitely think Aldo is the better fighter. At 155 I think he has a great chance to beat Pettis; Aldo’s wrestling game is vastly underrated, his BJJ is great, and he’d have a lot more cardio to play around with at 155. He has a great chance of dethroning Pettis and ruling the division.

Aldo has become the GSP of 45. He fights cautiously. Pettis is probably faster than him. Hopefully, Pettis will punch Aldo everytime he kicks him. Aldo needs to know that if you kick, you’re gonna get punched in your face. I’d like to see Mendes fight Aldo again, But this time without the cheaters fence grabbing move.

huhhhh?? Pettis is not even close to being as fast as Aldo..Aldo is probably one of the quickest, most explosive fighters minus flyweights..Also, when you try to hit Aldo you will get hit with a flurry of combos from hands and feet..I think Pettis’ only chance is liver shots like how he took out Cerrone and possibly ground game if he is on top..get Aldo into the later rounds is also a good option..i also predict Aldo dodging a lot of Pettis’ offense in the early rounds

Pettis would show how human Aldo is.
