Pettis Looking For Top 5 Opponent Before Years End

“I’d love to get back in there by the end of the year. That’d be ideal. There’s match ups going on right now and it doesn’t seem too promising. But I’ll be healthy and get ready and if anybody gets hurt or injured, I’ll be ready.”
The last standing WEC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, talks about his desire to up his level of competition to The Pro MMA Radio Show (via mmamania.com).
After beating Ben Henderson he entered the UFC in a losing effort against Clay Guida. He did follow it up with a victory over an unranked Jeremy Stephens at UFC 136 and now apparently wants a top 5 opponent to ascend back through the lightweight rankings.
Is he deserving?

Don’t know who he would fight that’s in the top 5 by the end of the year.
He couldn’t beat Guida, what makes him think he can beat a top 5 guy? I think if Cerrone beats Siver then Pettis should fight Cerrone and give the winner between Guida and henderson a title shot next.
yeah but cowboy is whoopin ass hes on a streak i mean to be noticed fighting showtime would be good but id like melvin guillard against pettis since pettis is coming off a win after a loss and melvin is coming from a loss of a win streak
I like that….A Lot
id like either match up, but pettis and melvin makes a lot more sense. you should work for the ufc haha
Good call Jimmy, the cowboy and showtime would be an awesome fight.
I think he should fight J-Lou next. good step for both guys if either one wins. i myself would be going for J-Lou cause hes a beast. he beat Melvin very impressively. and melvin would have most likely gotten a tittle shot after guida and bendo if he would have beat J-Lou.
Probably won’t see a top 5 contender but I do see him fighting a top 10 if anything. Miller, Siver, Maybe even Cerrone or J Lau as 2 of you have stated already.
Pettis vs Guillard. someone would get KNOCKED OUT! lol
Who and why do theses guys think there shit don’t stink u just had a fight with Stephens that could of went either way what’s wrong wit u u showed everybody what level ur on and it’s not up in top five there buddy
Pettis would submit him.
I would like to see pettis vs barboza or guillard would also be wicked
pettis vs guillard…
pettis via SUB.. duh
Petis vs Cowboy. Winner gets shot. Cowboy has been steam rolling and Petis last two fights are not top five performances
I think Cerrone would straight up bully Pettis. He’s good, but I think Cerrone would walk through his strikes and put it on him. Interesting fight, though…
As stacked as the division is, there are only a few fighters that come to mind who I consider contenders for the title for the next 6-8 months…obviously Cerrone, Henderson, Siver, and Guida fighting before this year’s end, there’s only 3 names that sound enticing enough to give Sowtime Pettis a true challenge for that #2 or #3 spot in the lightweight division: Nate Diaz, J-Lau, and Sam Stout.
They shld put him against the muscle shark sean sherk.
I like the Cerrone/Pettis fight, it makes the most sense in my opinion. Cerrone was arguably the #2 or #3 LW in WEC, is now on a tear and WHEN he beats siver will be top 10 ranked easy. Cerrone has called out Pettis before and with Pettis coming off a decent win, the fight needs to happen
Pettis/J-Lau
