Intense workout with UFC athletes Werdum, Rafael dos Anjos, Beneil Dariush and now the newest hired Pedro Munhoz. Very happy to have another student representing our fighting spirit inside the octagon. Congratulations Pedrinho! Near commitments; Lyoto Machida, 15/02 (Jaragua), Pedro Munhoz, 22/02 (Las Vegas), Werdum and Rafael, 19/04 (Orlando).
Raphael Assuncao, who is already scheduled on the UFC 170 card, was in need of an opponent after Francisco Rivera was forced to resign due to an injury. However, it seems that the UFC has found a replacement in Munhoz.
Munhoz, 27 years old, currently trains at the highly respected Kings MMA after coming to US, and is currently training with the likes of Fabricio Werdum and Raphael dos Anjos to name a few. Munhoz is a highly decorated Brazilian Jui- Jitsu practitioner with experience in multiple tournaments and is currently undefeated with a record of 10-0.
Munhoz is one to watch as he comes into the UFC. He has great boxing fundamentals and is a fantastic ground fighter. He’s able to bring his opponent to the ground almost at will, and is exceptionally good at attacking an injured opponent with submissions. And with five of his ten victories by submission, in short, the kid’s a killer.
This is all not to imply that his bout with Assuncao will be a walk in the park. With Raphael also being very well versed on the ground this bout is sure to be an entertaining one. Assuncao very well may be the better striker going into this bout, but Munhoz will be looking to show his worthiness as a new comer to the UFC. And with Munhoz not being green to the fight game its sure that nerves won’t play a huge part in his performance. Either way, this match up is sure to be an exciting fight.
