Paulo Filho tastes defeat yet again

Long past his glory days in the WEC and Pride, Paulo Filho has lost yet another bout. This time Filho faced off for the middleweight title against Andre Muniz at Bitetti Combat 19 which took place at the Tropical Hotel arena in Manaus, Brazil last Thursday.

Filho, a black belt in Brazilian Jui-Jitsu and Judo, has seen better days in his MMA career. The former WEC Middleweight champion and 2006 Pride Grand Prix combatant has been consistently going down hill since his return from retirement. The fighter has gone 1-4-2 since 2011 with his most recent loss against Andre Muniz adding to the count.

With yet another loss it’s fair to assume that this very well may be the last time we see Filho as his days of relevance in the sport are seeming to slip away from him. Filho has had battles with substance dependency in the past and is no doubt attempting to resurrect his glory days as a fighter. However, it seems that it might be best for him to simply retire for good and focus on himself rather than focus on becoming what he once was.

The main event of Bitetti Combat 19 was a bout between Joao Luiz “Andrezinho” Nogueira who defeated Erick Silva via guillotine choke in the second round to defend his lightweight crown. The victory puts “Andrezinho” at 17-6 in his professional MMA career.

Also, another UFC veteran in Ronys Torres competed. Torres faced off against Gilmar Dutra, destroying him in only 25 seconds of the very first round. Torres was able to put Dutra on his back after a series of punches and knees. He then commenced to punish Dutra with punches from top position until the referee stepped in and called the bout. This stoppage makes for finish number 10 for the UFC veteran. Torres is now 14-2 in his career.

The following are the results of Bitetti Combat 19:

Joao Luiz Nogueira def. Erick Silva via second-round submission (guillotine choke)
