Paul Daley Tells Bellator To Back Off Of Manhoef Fight
Newly appointed Bellator President Scott Coker has been working on getting bigger and better fights set up for the organization, and his latest idea, set for November, would be one heck of a fight.
Coker spoke about his plans to put Paul Daley against Melvin Manhoef for the MMA Hour:
“Paul, pending his September 12th fight in London, if he’s okay, we’re going to be fighting him in November here in America. I can tell you the fight I’d like to put together. We had a conversation with Melvin Manhoef about dropping down in weight, so I’d like to put Manhoef vs. Daley together. So if [Manhoef] doesn’t get hurt, Paul doesn’t get hurt, we’ll put that fight together.”
And while Coker seems excited and almost ready to make this fight a reality, Paul Daley told everyone on his Facebook page to pump their brakes on the idea:
“As great as it would be [on] paper, this is a fight that will not be happening for personal reasons, plus the more obvious reason of him being a former training partner, mentor, and someone I owe some of my training practices and methods [to]… Happy that Bellator are looking to schedule me to fight in November, but I would not even consider this fight.”
Manhoef’s next fight is against Doug Marshall at Bellator 125 on September 19th, 2014. Paul Daley also has a fight slated in September under the BAMMA flag.
