Paul Daley Says He Has Matured, Wants Back Into the UFC
Paul Daley is back in contact with the UFC since his unsportmanlike incident nearly four years ago. Daley was immediately cut from the UFC after his decision loss to Josh Koscheck back at UFC 113 for delivering a sucker punch to Kos for taking home the victory.
Since his sudden departure, Daley has been adding to his kickboxing record, doing a total of 15 fights, with an 11-4 record. Now, Daley is ready to prove that he is mature enough to return to the UFC and made contact with the organization via his management. At a pre-fight presser that took place in Berlin, Dana White discussed his recent communication with Daley and his team.
“Paul Daley had his management wrote me a letter a few days ago, basically saying that he has grown up a lot since that incident, he’s been on a win streak, and it’s one of the biggest regrets of his life, and things like that. I showed it to [UFC CEO] Lorenzo [Fertitta], and Lorenzo’s like, ‘It’s up to you brother, what do you want to do?’ And it’s such a hard one for me. It’s a hard one for me. … It’s just one of those things that’s hard to forgive.”
While it’s not uncommon for Dana White to change his mind about fighters, he’s one of the biggest sticklers for professionalism and safety in the sport, so this may indeed be a very difficult decision for him.
Do you think that Daley has “served his time” and learned his lesson, or was his fate permanently sealed with that sucker punch?
