Palhares Reveals He Was Sick Going Into The Belcher Fight | “I could not do anything, I was too sick." | UFC News

By Jamie McAllister
Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares in an interview with TATAME.

Palhares discusses the Belcher fight and reveals he was ill going into the bout.

“I could not do anything, I was too sick. I don’t really wanna talk about it so it doesn’t sound like an excuse and I’m not taking back his credits.”

Palhares however wont let the loss get to him and plans to use it as motivation for future.

“That’s only going to strengthen me and I’ll become a champion.”

In the fight Palhares insisted on going for a heel-hook and was not able to finish and was knocked out soon after. He explains why he was unable to finish the move.

“When you get it (the position), you gotta really get it. I tried to repeat it, but I was gassing off, I was not strong enough. It was not my day, literally. I was dead, I could not move”

Palhares comments on having learned from his mistake of competing when less than 100% and says he will never do it again.

“My plan now is to train and never step up on the ring like I did this time. I was trying to jump and scream to see if I had any energy left, but I couldn’t do it.”

you know what palhres f*&# off, thats very disrespectfull to try to take that win away from belcher, sick or not you still got beat at your own game, and BADLY

    • Jc says:

He says he is not trying to take belchers credits away, but that’s exactly what he is tring to do. Brazilians are whining bitches when the lose. Cough “big nog” cough

      • Chris says:

There’s alot of fighters who go in and fight while injury and not telling anyone der injury then tell the media later that they were. Jst picking on one ethic group of fighters. Is a tad bit discriminating.

        • jim says:

I was thinking that too, but he does have a point, and I give him credit for posting it.

I can’t think of a better way of saying it or else I would have. I don’t think anyone goes into a fight 100 %.

          Oh well rematch?

        • Mc says:

He wasn’t injury lol. I’m mean injured. He was “sick”. Yeah right I’m sure. Couldn’t finish his big move n got KTFO and is embarrassed about it so now he says he was sick. Didn’t look so sick he couldn’t fight.

        • Brend0magic says:

          +1 to mc again

        • Thom says:

          Palhares didnt get KTFO dumbass.

        • GET RID OF FITCH ( forever) says:

trust me you would never in million years see GSP in cage if he had so much as a bad dream the night before or if he stubbed his toe walking to cage. Palharis is POOR and prob thought he would be fired if he back out for being ILL. You know the guy is not the sharpest tool in shed to begin with. He did look totally flat against Belcher. Regardless both Belcher and palharis would crush Bisping but theyw ill never get to prove it in the UFC-WWE

      • Xaninho says:

        Others as well

        *cough*Frankie Edgar*cough*

      • Tyrone says:

What about that Brazillian pussy Anderson Silva who said he had a broken rib after the Chael fight. And Chael was on steroids yet he still won. Oh wait he is a beast pretty much everyone is injured going into fights and some are more severe. I agree he is kinda taking credit from Belcher but to name a ethnic group is stupid and ignorant

        • Reality says:

If you claim an injury and win it’s not as bad as if you claim an injury and lose. If Anderson lost and made an excuse I’d see what you’re saying…but he won. Fortunately we’ll get to see in the next fight how much the rib truly affected his performance. On another note, I agree that the whole excuse thing is weak and these fighters are better off keeping that to themselves after losing(or even winning in my opinion). If it’s so bad just request a rematch and rally for it is what I think they should do.

    • Not your business says:

If youve got nothing to say good at someone shut up! We dont care if you love to suck and fuck belcher.

  2. CD says:

brazilians always have excuses when they lose.

  3. keep fitch (forever) says:

Lol sure u were sick. Thats what they all say I bet Belcher still would knock this guy out even if he wasnt sick.

  4. I’ve never been a Palhares fan, but I do love PAUL HARRIS!

  5. TRUTH says:

Guys Palhares has gone 3 rounds easily with Miller. He has amazing Cardio, and he did look off. Belcher deserves win bc he escaped leg lock, but even if he didnt get it he would have smashed Alan. This guy is the future of MW division and he is 3-5 fights away from becoming a champion. Marquard loss was bullshit, and Hendo loss was inexperience. This guy is fucking scary man and you;ll see how well he will do AGAIN

  6. zoeldog27 says:

He did look off but for him to say he’s gonna be the champ he’s dreaming all the top tier guys in the MW division better watch out for the freight train that is Hector Lombard he is the future of the division not Palahares id love to see Sonnen fight Lombard cause i promise Lombard wont say anything b4 the fight and Lombard would ko Sonnen quite easily the only guy in the division that will be able to hang with Lombard is Silva cant wait for that fight i think two big wins will get him there, first he will Ko Stann then they should give him the winner of Bisping/Botch then the winner of Silva/Sonnen and dont say Lombard doesnt deserve it he’s on a 25 win streak why do you think uncle Dana snapped him up………

    • Drew says:

I’m so tired of people talkin about this 25 unbeaten streak first off one of them is a draw and how many of the other 24 wins are over people even ranked or ranked high enough to say he skips everybody else in the division for a title shot everyone forgets bisping who goes out to fight and has fought the best in the UFC for years not part time fighters

    • jones says:

hector is shit…he hardly beat trever pranglyy who sux…hector wil get smashed by any to 5 in ufc

    • WaG kA nA ! ! ! says:

Dude, have you ever heard of punctuation marks?

      • Nickdick says:

Because run on sentences are easier to read and understand when you have a great mindful and intelligent thing to add when there is a level of insight about being a truly experienced ringside octagon fighter which comes from the years spent watching Sensai YouTube on how to become a kick boxer ninjitsu brazilian jiujitsu black belt who will be competing in the BJJ Worlds this weekend Simply put a champion in the making without a drop of sweat and getting punched in the face or kicked in the stomach or even having a simple RNC applied on him end sentence punctuation period

  7. Lol says:

This guy needs to learn how to strike. All this guy wants to do is take it to the ground. Weak ass dude and he still got beat up in his own gm. Excuses now? This guy is garbage.

  8. Jason says:

If all these people that are losing are so sick, or that injured, the need not be in the ring. IF, thats the case, not only are they putting their careers on the line, they are keeping someone that would put on a more considerable show than said person who is “sick”. Belcher won the fight after a shaky 2 minutes on the ground with the best leg tactician in the game (supposedly), give him his shot, he’s paid his dues.

    • danielrchargers says:

      what the fuck

      • Jason says:

Not sure if you agree or disagree with what I said with your….whatever your statement is. I have nothing against Brazilian fighters, hell, everytime Tito loses he blames it on a nagging injury, so its not just them. All I’m saying is, if he was sick, he shouldnt have fought, but he did, so his excuse, no matter of the weight it holds, is irrelevant. Belcher should at least get a number one contenders match.

  9. Me says:

If Paul was a little smarter . . . alas

  10. Chartmonster says:

Here we go black house excuse factory.. I bet he felt worse after that beating he took.

  11. andy says:

Poor Palhares. Between being sick and that greasing son of a bitch Marquardt he just can’t get a break!

  12. DMAC says:

I’d be sick also if I got beat at my own game. He pretty much catapulted Belchers career lmao go America! I only say that cuz all the brazillians stick together so we should do the same lol.

    • Thurgood Jenkins says:

America. FUCK YEA. Comin’ again to save the motherfuckin’ day, yea. America. FUCK YEA. Freedom is the only way, yea. Brazilian MMA fighters, your game is through cuz now you have to answer to . . . America. FUCK YEA.

  13. Dick Diaz says:

man, i thought this guy was going to be the next champ after silva retired… lmaoooooo

  14. Ryan says:

Man Chael was exactly right LOL. He made a comment about a lot of Brazillian fighters having a sickness or an injury in excuse for a loss.

    • Reality says:

Funny enough, although I think he says a lot of foolishness some of the stuff has come to fruition. For example, he called out Vitor on always pulling out of fights.

  15. KDogg says:

Chael is a pussbag. Silva provided medical documentation, that he was hurt when he snuffed Chael out!

  16. hammerfist says:

are u talking bout the same chael whos tapped out and then imediately says he didnt tap after the fights been stopped???

  17. Nick says:

It seems that Brazilians always make up excuses. I don’t know if it’s a problem with translation or what. I know a lot of fighters do, but it seems Brazilians do it excessively.

  18. monkey juice says:

    Brazilians are fuckin gay.

  19. Patrick says:

Worst excuse ever. I only hear fighters bring up that they were sick after losses, never after a win. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, some of the best games of their CAREER were played with the flu and other sickness/ailments. Palhares had Belcher right where he wanted him and lost. And the “he looked flat” excuse I can’t stand, I’ve seen healthy guys look flat and unimpressive as well. Not every time, but I’d say most of the time when the phrase “not to take away from their win” is used, that’s exactly what they’re doing without looking as whiny and desperate excuse makers. You lost. Fair and square, straight up, quit your bitchin’ and get back in the gym and learn something other than a heel hook.

  20. J.P says:

And JDS had a fake knee cirurgy just to look better…

So as Rampage…oops…Rampage is not brazilian!!

  21. jbeamazing says:

Pauly Haris is a headcase so many excuses you would think he got his black belt under big nog

  22. mike cocchiere says:

The only peason at fault for losing this fight is himself, he shouldn’t have taken it if he wasn’t “100%”.

  23. TEMPHUiBIS says:

-]. I hate when fighters say this, It’s like making Belcher look as if he’s a shit fighter and doesn’t deserve his won when we does .[-

  24. BobstEr says:

Brasilians always have an excuse for why they lost or got knocked the fuck out. Gotta love Big Nogs excuse both times Frank Mir kicked his ass.
