Nick Diaz no-shows UFC 158 open workouts; Dana White not happy | UFC News

Yes you read correctly, Nick Diaz has missed yet another media obligation in advance of his UFC 158 welterweight title fight against champion Georges St. Pierre.

Diaz was supposed to participate in todays UFC 158 open media workouts, however, to the surprise of fans, media and UFC president Dana White, the Stockton slugger was nowhere to be found.

This isn’t the first time that Nick has failed to show up for media obligations, if you remember, Diaz was pulled from his first title shot opposite GSP for missing a pair of pre-fight press conferences for the UFC 137 event.

The open media workouts are used as an opportunity for fighters to reveal anything they’ve been working on in training, perhaps give a glimpse of their conditioning and of course, do some pre-fight media scrums with the press.

Ariel Helwani of was the first to notice the absence of Diaz:

@arielhelwani – Diaz was supposed to be here 45 mins ago. They are looking to track him down. Still no sign of him at the workouts.

Ariel Helwani reached out to Diaz’s manager and trainer Cesar Gracie for an explanation:

@arielhelwani – @cesargraciebjj just told me Nick is not coming to the workouts. “7 hour plane ride while cutting weight is tough. Decided to rest up.”

According to Gracie, UFC President Dana White had given Nick permission to skip the workout:

@arielhelwani – @cesargraciebjj tells me now: “Dana previously OK’ed Nick not being at the workout.”

Here’s where things get weird… White was a guest on the Jim Rome show today and he seemed rather shocked that Diaz didn’t show up for the open workouts. Here is what Dana had to say:

“I literally just found out Nick Diaz did not show up for the open workouts today in Montreal….Let me tell you what, there is no shtick with this kid, I mean it’s – he’s just a different animal man, he’s absolutely hard to deal with.”

The fired up UFC President also discussed what could happen if Diaz fails to show up to tomorrow’s UFC 158 pre-fight press conference:

“If he wins, you know, we are seriously going to have to have a ‘come to Jesus meeting,’ you know what I mean? The guy is very, very hard to deal with, we’ll see what happens. I got to tell you this, though, I leave tonight for Montreal. The press conference is tomorrow, I’m excited for the press conference and I’m definitely excited for the weigh-ins ’cause, you never know what you’re going to get. Well, let me tell you what, if he does not show up tomorrow for the press conference, it is not going to be good. I don’t know what I’ll say or what I’m going to do, but I’ll tell you what — it will not be good.”

So what happens if Diaz does go on to win the title this Saturday night in Montreal you ask? Would he continue to get away with no-showing his media obligations? UFC President Dana White says no chance:

“If he wins the title he’s going to have to come to Vegas and we’re going to have to sit down and we did this already when we signed his new deal, but I’m going to have to tell him, ‘If you miss anything, I will strip you of this title,’ and you know what I mean? I don’t know what else to do. I really don’t know what else to do.”

What are your thoughts? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!

I used to be a big Diaz fan. Now, I can’t stand this guy. I’ve never heard someone bitch so much about ‘getting his shot’ and then, single handedly, f*cking it up. If I were Dana W. I would release this guy and let him go somewhere else. Sure, he’s a great fighter, but he has no respect. He needs a lesson in it.

Yourself, Dana and GSP can go suck your grandmother’s eggs. Nick Diaz 209 for the win! HHOEFHANFCABEOVAOCAIOAJNCANADA OPAWJPIANSUCKS!

      • There's Someone... says:

… Who is most likely going for Diaz because he is from his area and for his attitude because he probably is just as disrespectful. I myself live in the 209 and Ronda Shite, if you want to meet up for an ass kicking I’ll be more than willing to give you one.

I agree, he’s a great fighter but selling the fight is as important to the brass as showing up to the fight. Not to mention the fans look forward to this shit. If he doesn’t want to do them well I guess that’s up for the UFC to decide on but everyone else has to do it and they do, why the f*ck doesn’t Diaz, I like him but all I’ve heard out of him lately is basically he’s wanting what GSP has but doesn’t want to do what is NECESSARY to get it all done. You have got to compromise dude, this whole “diva” nonsense has got to go, for your careers’ sake if nothing else. Maybe he’s giving himself and the UFC a way out if he loses. This is what is likely to happen in my opinion

      • Ronda Shite says:

        shut up kid!

      • allmightysandman says:

        nah, you’re right.

If he wants what GSP has, he has to learn to help the co. make the coin…no help the company make coin…no support for you! makes sense to me.

Where the phuck does the idiot think the money comes from? do what your employer asks of you or go to another employer!

all the idiots that say “he’s a fighter not a sellout” and shit like that are the same idiots that don’t have much business sense and likely work for a living too. Just because he does his share of promoting the fights and hyping the whole thing doesn’t make him a sellout…makes him smart…which he doesn’t get accused of very often.

GSP FTW …and I’ll say it again, this is the fight that I would love to see GSP start finishing guys again!

Diaz is a wreck and is his own worst enemy.

  2. Hafidz says:

yeah I 100% with this dude , Diaz need to show some respect to his boss Dana . He’s a great fighter

  3. Thom says:

if you’re an MMA fan why the fuck would you want to see Diaz get cut? Sure he can be annoying with his no shows and whatever but really? its a fucking open workout who watches that anyway?

    • Gargoyle Wrestling says:

The Fans at the venue, that’s who. It’s the main promotion for selling live seats prior to the fights.
It’s an easy fix, just make a contract that if he no-shows then he gets a pay cut. Diaz wants more money, he shows, he wants less money he no-shows.
I think the UFC is looking for an excuse to cut him. If he loses to GSP and maybe someone else, he’ll be cut. The guy needs to start winning against the top 5, even though I think he beat Condit, he needs to beat people more convincingly.
He would be an awesome addition to WSOF.

What a fukcin flake!! And u wonder why your life’s such a sh*t show!! Can’t wait for Saturday!

  5. CLN3 says:

He is such a putz! He made a contractual obligation and I am not sure why anyone is surprised he didn’t show up. He is disrespectful to Dana and other fighters as well and I am not sure why Dana puts up with it. For somebody who swears he is the best and practically begs for “his shot”, he doesn’t act like a top tier fighter. He certainly has not earned the right to act like he does.

  6. JohnnyMMA says:

Fake. Its all abou money cocksuckers. This is all staged to gain more PPV, youre idiots if you didnt notice by now.

  7. real homies says:

Why would he want to do a media work out in front of a crowd that hates him?! If I was all jet lagged, tired and cutting weight, I wouldn’t show up either to get booed and yelled at by a bunch of french canadians. F that

  8. Joye says:

Nick Diaz is a fighter he doesn’t care about the attention and cameras like some people do. He does need to get use to it since he is in the UFC now but after going through all the hard training and everything else you think the last week they would be giving a break until weigh ins.

I don’t see it as being that much of a deal I want to see fights not all the crap that goes on before hand.

  9. GRT 3000 says:

this is the last of cry baby Diaz folks. when he loses to GSP he’ll regress to a 3 year old and have a tantrum; that in tandem with his inability be professional (or think properly) will spell the last of it.

  10. Nunya says:

Whether they’re doing this for pub or not, Diaz looks like an idiot

  11. joma-mma says:

Yeah right, Dana doesn’t know what will happen if Nick wins. I’m gonna go out on a limb here and tell ya (ya really don’t know?) Ok, he’s gonna tell White and anyone else he damn well feels like, to fo Guck themselves. I’d do the same thing. We need more people like Nick. I’m glad to see there are still a few men that think for themselves. Hurrah!

I am a TV reporter for many national news and sports shows and have recently started covering MMA. As a member of the media it is east to ask the questions can be very scary to asnwer them especially if you are already phobic about it. By not showing up Diaz now has to do the one thing he hates most is answer the questions.

I have been stood up by many celebrities who freaked out at the last minute. I agree it does not help promote the sport but maybe if Diaz got some media training he might be more at ease.

    I feel bad for him

  13. JohnDoe says:

Before you judge, remember what these guys get paid. I would walk around mean muggin’ too if I was being underpaid. These organizations are bringing in way too much money to be screwing over their fighters like that.
