Nate Diaz: ‘Gilbert and I are the best lightweights in the world’

“I think in boxing they start hopping in when they’re taking a lot of punches, or maybe their corner would have threw in the towel, but I wasn’t going to stop. I was just trying to set up a good one to land to finish it off if they weren’t going to stop it. I’m glad that they stopped it when they did because this is a rough sport, and I don’t think people should be taking shots. It’s not like ‘I want to kill this guy’, and I’m talking s- – t like the rest of these people, but (finishing the fight) was the plan and I’m glad that they stopped it when they did… I feel like I hit hard all the time. Sometimes I just keep going, and instead of throwing full blown power shots I feel like a lot more accurate punches will do, but if I slow it down and try and hit you hard, I’m going to hit you hard.”

“I do have a lot of losses on my record, and other people have a lot of criticism, and s- – t to talk about me losing, but if you took a look at my record compared to other people’s record, for every two fights (of theirs) I’ve fought six or seven times. So, if they were fighting like I am, they would have more losses than me.”

“Just so everyone knows that the number one and number two lightweights in the world are right here, me and my man (Gilbert Melendez) right here. I know we’re the top two guys, I know.”

During his epic post-fight speech, UFC lightweight, Nathan Diaz, told ringside announcer Jon Anik that he believes the Cesar Gracie lightweights are the best in the world.

Nate was able to successfully avenge his prior defeat to Gray Maynard with a first round TKO over his foe last Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Awesome win by Diaz. He looked great and in spite of what people think he showed allot of class in his comments about not wanting to see Maynard take punishment. I thought he proved once again that he is a tough fighter and a gamer. I don’t think he is #2 in the world but I admire his skill, grit, and his fearless approach. Hey Ddddd I hope that comment was basic enough for you to understand. I used easy words and everything.

  2. Guss says:

Nice win by Diaz against Maynard. But “#1 and #2″? Benson Henderson beat both of them. And neither have fought Pettis yet. So slow it down there Nate.

  3. 757 says:

Benson did beat Diaz but he also was gifted that belt a couple of times. I don’t think Nate is #2 but he is tough. Pettis is to cocky for me. Awesome fighter when he fights and isn’t hurt but he talks to much shit.
