Mousasi: IF Vitor will do his job, I will gladly face him at 185, 195 or 205

Former Strikeforce and DREAM champion Gegard Mousasi (34-3-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) was recently interviewed by MMAJunkie’s John Morgan,  and discussed his desire to fight Vitor Belfort, at middleweight, light heavyweight, or a catchweight of 195-pounds.

“I will make this easy on Vitor,” Mousasi told MMAjunkie.com. “If he is going to continue to make conditions on who he will fight, I will face Vitor at a catchweight or at light heavyweight.

“Vitor is a fighter, and he is not getting any younger. He gets paid to fight. He should get in there and do his job with or  without the belt. That is his job, and he should not be making such  conditions because he is only losing time and opportunity.

“If Vitor will do his job, then I  will gladly face him at 185 pounds, 195 pounds or 205 pounds. I know  both the fans and the UFC want this fight badly. If Vitor does not want  to fight, then give me any No. 1 contender in the middleweight  division.”

“I want to have a title shot, and whoever is in  front of the line is the person I expect to challenge. I  have been fighting for a very long time, and my professional record  speaks for itself. I believe I deserve a title shot based on what I have  accomplished. I have seen fighters that have done less and have  received a title shot. So I feel that I am in the mix.”

Is a fight between Mousasi and Belfort one you would like to see put together by UFC officials? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!

  1. 757 says:

    I am not impressed

    • Nate "THE CHEAT" Marquardt (roid cheat) says:

Maybe Mousasi should try and beat someone ranked higher than 30th before he thinks he should get a top 10 fight.

Beating cans only gets you in the top 10 if you have the name Bisping

  2. Gargoyle wrestling says:

Me either, he’s not white or American so get put of here bro. Chris Weidman for president!!

  3. GRT 3000 says:

This guy fought a replacement ‘CAN’ and squeaked by, now he’s calling out Vitor? & I don’t want to hear how decorated he was outside the UFC (b/s) that doesn’t mean shit and that’s been proven over n over.

  4. Dan Jenkins says:

Although Vitor is coming off a couple highlight reel ko’s I think he’s being a bit precious, only the champion should have the right to pick and chose and when he/she does they are viewed as being soft, which is fair enough. I’ve been waiting for Mousasi to get to the ufc for a while now, I hope Vitor takes the fight. I like both fighters and think it would be a good fight.

  5. Dddddddddd says:

This fight isn’t gonna seem interesting to people that call MMA The UFC. There’s a lot to these guys and their past. If this guys such a pu$$ why does it matter. Give Vitor another highlight ko. I’m tired of hearing people say if you haven’t been in the UFC all your life you don’t deserve good fights.
Be a fan of MMA not the UFC. This guys had ups and downs and so has Vitor. That’s what makes this fight relevant. If Vitor kicks his brains out so be it.

    • Sasquatch says:

The UFC fan boys will be singing a different tune once Mousasi kick Vitors @ss.

    • GOT RID OF FITCH (forever) THANK GOD says:

I don’t think a guy who had a draw with Keith Jardine should be calling out the #1 UFC MW contender. We all know Mousasi can beat “CANS” let him beat someone in the top 20 then work his way up to top 10. Mousasi looked like sh’t in his last fight. He basically fought a guy out of the crowd, much like Bisping did in his first 20 pro MMA fights. Why doesn’t Mousasi call out Bisping he is lower ranked than Vitor. If Mousasi can beat Bisping then maybe UFC will give him afight with Vitor

  6. Gargoyle Wrestling says:

Yah Vitor has had 10 defeats and Mousasi has had 3. Most wins by KO or submission. Belfort been winning by KO and submission, But when Mousasi loses, its been by decisions and when Belfort loses lately its by KO or submission. So I say HELL YAH, set this up and make it happen. Mousasi is the real deal. He was badly hurt last fight, thus the surgery and played it very conservatively. I’d love to see him fukc up Belfort. Vitor is due for an ass kicking with all his cheating. (I wonder why the Fitch Psycho isn’t signing in under getting rid of Vitor forever (the cheat)) hmmmmm. I wonder of its selective…cool

    • Sasquatch says:

I’d like to see Gegard slap that ugly mohawk right off Vitors head.

    • Again.. says:

10 Defeats you are right, but once again you made a fool of yourself. You said Mousasi loses by decision, oh on the contrary 2/3 of his losses were by submission and only one decision loss. Now Mousasi lost to 3 horrible fighters, King MO is definite trash! While Belfort lost to 10 of the sports best fighters such as Couture, Liddell, Ortiz, Henderson, Sakuraba,Overeem and of course your fake MMA fan self knows about Jones, and Silva. Those were the only people who beat Vitor and if you know anything about MMA you will know they were all great fighters in their prime, or are still in their prime such as Jones. You keep saying he’s cheating, but he’s not TRT is not cheating! The man is simply making shit fair. Mousasi was injured so he is automatically okay for not finishing a fighter whose record was 7 – 2, who took the fight on 2 days notice, who dropped 27 pounds in 2 days to make weight, who had no training camp? While Mousasi still has his 8 weeks. Stfu you embarrass yourself everytime.

  7. maddkillah says:

vitor has been in the ufc more than any of their active fighters right now..he has given us good and entertaining fights..i can still remember that time he became HW champ and that time he finished tank and wanderlei..he was one of my favorite fighters because of his style, the way he swarms his opponents when he smells blood and finishes them brutally. but now people just refer to him as a cheat, as if they were never entertained by his fights before and even now..although it is true that he has done some cheating before but that doesn’t erase the fact that he was and still is the ‘phenom’ the 19yr old kid who became UFC champ..i’m always looking forward to another exciting vitor fight..nothing but respect

  8. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Mousasi is the real deal. Belfort knows that, that’s why he doesn’t want to fight Mousasi.

  9. 757 says:

He has fought far better competition during his career. I don’t think it’s about being afraid of the “real deal” Mousasi. It has to do with draw and money. He can get allot more of it fighting someone else. That’s just the game.

    • GRT 3000 says:

+1 – Vitor’s not afraid of this fu(c)kin’ guy. He’s done the work & is nearing contention. Mousasi (while good) is not proven in the UFC. until wee see some of that, he should quit calling out top guys and just fight.

& I’m no casual fan either…I know who this guy is & what he can do. but let’s face it, he hasn’t fought top competition regularly…it’s a padded record. (same as Lombard, Shields, Diaz). Let him prove himself among the best before he starts calling shots is all I’m saying. There’s been far too many so-called champions that have entered the UFC & amounted to shit. (with the exception of Bendo)

  10. The Way Of The Dutchman says:

You’re right, casual and new fans don’t know Mousasi. So for belfort it’s a high risk-low reward fight. I can understand Belfort doesn’t want to risk his spot for less profit.
    .
If he thinks Mousasi’s not worthy he can just smash him and solidify his #1 spot with another impressive win. Apparently he’s not that sure about his chances. So the fact remains he’s ducking Mousasi.

  11. mhencore says:

I think he deserves more than Belfort.. He is a good fighter and he means business.. Unlike some of top-rank fighters in the UFC.. He is far greater than them… I’ve watched him fight, and he is awesome..

  12. 757 says:

How does he deserve more than Belfort. Sorry son he hasn’t fought anyone over in the UFC. I watched Gegard fight many times before. He is good but not in Vitor’s class …sorry guys. How the game goes is that these guys fight their way up to a point and then they are positioned to make a run. Gegard is not worth the risk. It’s not that he isn’t good it’s that Vitor doesn’t need him. The way the fight game goes I don’t blame him. After you lose one your not supposed to or something happens like a freak injury you get thrown away. I don’t blame Vitor on this one. Let Gegard fight some over here and then see what happens.

  13. Ddddddddd says:

Dana’s a bigger fan of Mousasi. It won’t suprise me to see him set it up for the people that have been waiting a long time for this fight. This is someone that will test Vitors current cardio. Mousasis not a guy that normaly gets knocked out and that’s why Vitors avoiding him. He’s gonna have to go to war with Mousasi and If its a five rounder I think Vitor will lose.

  14. 757 says:

I appreciate what your point is. The one thing that I have to disagree with is that Vitor is a supreme knockout puncher. The fact that Mousasi doesn’t normally get knocked out doesn’t mean anything. The fact other fact is that Mousasi hasn’t fought anybody that hits like that really either. I think Mousasi should have to fight someone else first if not two people. You shouldn’t be able to cut in front of other fighters

    • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

      Excuse me?
      .
He hasn’t fought anyone who hits like that? He fought Melvin Manhoef, Hector Lombard and Mark Hunt and beat them.

      • 757 says:

Excuse you exactly he hasn’t fought anyone with the hand speed and power of Vitor. Sorry brother Hunt hits like a truck but he is 250+ and not nearly as fast, and Lombard is a flop in the UFC what a joke he hasn’t proven anything. Besides he isn’t Vitor yet. So excuse you……

        • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

I’ll excuse you on forehand for thinking Lombard lost against Boetsch and Okami. He won those fights. Although very boring he did not lose those fights. The judges were morons.
          .
Hunt doesn’t have footwork as fast as Belfort, but his handspeed is there.

        • Again.. says:

How did Lombard win? He didn’t do a damn thing? He fought those fights like an amateur let guys lay n pray him to decisions. Mark Hunt’s hand speed is not there, Mark Hunt is slow as shit, are you serious? And at the time Mark Hunt was probably one of the worst MMA fighters. Melvin might be the only one even then Melvin isn’t technical worth shit. He’s more of a stand and bang type of guy and only relies on his hands, while Vitor has added kicks to his arsenal as well. I’m still mind blown as to how you said Hunt’s hand speed matches that of Belfort’s. Wow!

        • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Lombard won I’m not even going to waste time and discuss that part.
          .
Manhoef doesn’t have kicks? Come one man! If you want people to take you serious you need to stop spewing nonsense.
          .
Hunt doesn’t do the fast combo thing Belfort does, but you can’t say he’s slow because he isn’t. He moves around a bit static because he doesn’t have the footwork Belfort possesses, but his fists move very fast when he’s throwing.

  15. Again.. says:

No I’d love for you to explain to me how Lombard won? He put on a mediocre performance against both guys! And please tell me who has Manhoef Ko’d with a kick? He has Knees! You are the one spewing nonsense. Seriously still trying to say that his hand speed can match that of Belfort’s. He’s not the slowest guy but he is slow! You can always see his punch coming!
