Mousasi calls Belfort a ‘hypocrite’ for blowing off fight request

Gegard Mousasi has made it known that he wants Vitor Belfort next.

But in a recent interview Belfort, said Mousasi hadn’t earned the right.

“If you want to fight Vitor Belfort, you have to earn it,” said Belfort. “It’s just like if you want to play someone in the quarter or semi finals – you cannot just because you won something a long time ago. No, you have to earn your spot. I want to fight for the belt – that’s my goal. That’s the goal of a fighter, that’s the goal of an athlete in the UFC. That’s the goal of Vitor Belfort — I’m a winner, I’m a champion. That’s what I want, that’s what I’m fighting for.”

Mousasi and his management have said they were going to take that fight in August, but couldn’t accept it because of the ACL surgery Mousasi had to undergo.

Mousasi will be ready to return in December and wants that chance at Belfort then.

As Ariel Helwani reported on UFC Tonight, according to Mousasi and his management, Belfort is a “hypocrite” because they feel he was granted two title shots he didn’t go out and exactly earn. As Helwani also reported, Mousasi and his team can’t understand why their request can’t be met if Alexander Gustafsson is being granted a title shot after he was forced out of a bout due to injury.

Mousasi claims Affliction offered him a fight in 2008 opposite Belfort at a catchweight, but Belfort declined it citing his lack of inclination to compete at a catchweight. Mousasi told Helwani he can’t understand how Belfort can decline that bout and yet accept a catchweight bout in his return to the UFC.

I’m sorry to have to draw this conclusion but Vitor Belfort is full of it. Mousasi is right he’s ducking him. And Gustafsson did get a titleshot without having the fight that would decide who gets the next shot.

    • Quazzi says:

lol why would vitor duck him? Nothing against mousasai but vitor would smash him and everyone knows it. Vitor isnt getting younger and who can blame him for not wanting to wait till december to fight a guy who is ranked below him and if he knocks him out in 10 secs does nothing to push him up the rankings. Lets see vitor vs machida or vito vs sonnen at 185. Both would be great match ups

      • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Just the fact you name Sonnen as more deserving makes your whole comment kind of pointless. but i’ll answer you anyway…..Mousasi is no joke he was a Dream and Strikeforce champion. He has beaten solid opponents to achieve a record of 34-3.

        • Quazzi says:

I didnt say Sonnen is more deserving than mousasi. I said he would give vitor a better fight. I like mousasi but the truth is vitor would smash him and there is no likely scenorio where mousasi beats vitor. Everything that mousasi is good at vitor is better. And just cuz sonnen got a title shot against jon jones he didnt deserve and got smashed doesnt mean he isnt still a relevant fighter. Yes mousasi has a good record against piss poor competition. Bottom line this guy has no business callin out vitor. He should be thankful for being in the ufc and worrying about training to smash his next opponent not picking it

  2. Leenah says:

He’s not ducking Mousasi, i agree with Vitor. Mousasi had a f-ing lackluster performance against some no name dude. Vitor has been on a roll and i he should get the fight against Weidman=)

    • Thom1 says:

He ducked Gegard back in Affliction though.

    • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

You do realize Mousasi fought that lackluster performance against a no name dude with a torn ACL? He had only his hands so in my opinion he did pretty good.

      • Pedro says:

You do realize Latifi had to drop nearly 40pound in 3days, so he should have been able to finish latifi in the 2-3 round anyway! :S

        • The Way Of The Dutchman says:

Nearly 40 pounds? It wasn’t even 30! He dropped exactly 26 lbs….And finishing a healthy strong opponent while having to walk around the octagon with a torn ACL? Are you kidding me? You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about!

  3. Sean says:

Those talking crap on Mousasi don’t know who he is. If that fight was announced tomorrow Mousasi would be the Vegas favorite.

    • Sasquatch says:

Exf**kinactly!.. most newbie fans don’t have a clue who he is, the man is an immediate contender if he drops to 185. I hope they make Vitor fight him.. Gegard will kick the testosterone sh!t right out him!

  4. 757 says:

Really what an idiot exf**kinactly….now everyone knows your 10 yrs old ha ha.

  5. 757 says:

Ha Ha o.k same stuff from you assquatch bla bla bla like a broken record. Please go away shave your back you geek. Mousasi is getting his bell rung if he talks himself into a fight Vitor. As for you assquatch get some new material….goofy fuck

  6. KIDD433 says:

Mousasi has been around no doubt, but IMO needs to earn some stripes in the octagon. He didn’t impress anyone in his UFC debut,And he’s in no position to call out the #1 contender in a different division(Vitor), who by the way is coming off 2 viscious KOs. One against a top contender, 2nd against,a champion.

    • Sasquatch says:

Vitor needs to step the f**k up!.. he’s looking like a coward right now. Gegard will destroy any chance of him getting another title shot, why else do you think he’s ducking him… again.
