WSOF 2 Results: Moraes Destroys Nam With High Head Kick in Co-Main Event | MMA News
Marlon Moraes just might get that title fight after all.
Moraes, who said earlier this week that he deserved the first shot at the World Series of Fighting bantamweight title should he defeat Tyson Nam on Saturday, used a high right kick to knock out the Sports Lab fighter during the first round of the co-main event in Ovation Hall at the Revel in Atlantic City, NJ.
The two-time national muay Thai champion’s kick struck Nam high on his head, and he crumpled to the ground. Moraes pounced, and several hard right hands forced the referee to save Nam at the 2:55 mark.
“I was ready for the war,” Moraes said. “I trained really, really hard … I was ready to fight for the full 15 minutes.”
Moraes wouldn’t need to fight for very long. The bantamweights measured each other with leg kicks and a few short punches to open the fight. Then, with Nam backed near the fence, Moraes unleashed a kick that found its mark.
The win, his fourth in a row, improved Moraes’ record to 10-4. One of those victories was a split decision upset against Miguel Torres at WSOF 1 in November.
Originally from Brazil and now living in Jupiter, Florida, Moraes has recently begun training with former UFC champion Frankie Edgar.
“Now I’m training here, and the people from New Jersey are the best,” Moraes said.
Nam’s record falls to 12-5 and the loss snaps a four-fight win streak.
