WSOF Buzzing Over New Hawaiian-Born Brothers

When you have a favorite fighter, an athlete of incredible skill, amazing power and explosive entertainment value, you always wish there was another. “Why can’t there be more like this guy,” we cry after a particularly satisfying fight. Well, luckily, there are times when the sport is blessed to have two great athletes not fall too far from the same tree: Big Nog and Little Nog, Anthony and Sergio Pettis, Nick and Nate Diaz. Well now we can add one more terrific duo to the list. I’d like for you to meet the Hansen Brothers, Bryson and Brenson.

The two Hawaiian-born brothers have made their rounds on the World Series of Fighting circuit as of late, creating a bit of a buzz because of their powerhouse tactics and for the first time, both brothers will be fighting on the same night on the WSOF 9 card March 29th.

Byson Hansen is the older brother, and at 27 years of age, has already racked up a 6-1 record. The younger brother Brenson has a 5-2 record at just 24 years of age. When Brenson was asked about fighting on the same night as his brother he offered, “It’s something new for us, but we expect it to be happening a lot.”

The Hansen brothers just recently made a huge move to further their MMA careers, going from Honolulu, Hawaii all the way to Las Vegas to train under the renowned Extreme Couture banner. They have found some advantages to leaving the tropical isles for the more fast-paced city.

“In Hawaii everyone has jobs and kids and is trying to survive. Here in Vegas you can go into a training room at 10 in the morning and there are guys chasing the same dream as you and you can grind together. That’s what we need,” replies Brenson

Bryson agrees: “The cost of living is a lot cheaper in Vegas,” Bryson said. ” At home it’s hard to do those two-a-days when you’re trying to make so much more money trying to survive.”

Even with their recent upheaval and promising pros to Sin City, the boys still show a lot of Hawaiian pride.

“Hawaiians call Vegas ‘The Ninth Island.’ It’s cool because I love that Hawaiian vibe and you can get it out here, too,” says Brenson.

Bryson adds: “In Hawaii, people have a lot of heart. It’s something you can’t really explain but it’s something that we all have. We just kind of tuck our chins in Hawaii, and if it comes down to it we just start trading (blows). That’s the Hawaiian mentality.”

One thing is certain about the two fighters, they are known for putting a lot of pressure on their opponents and pushing the fight in their direction, and with both of them fighting on the same card later this month, I’m certain that they will bring a lot of attention to their budding careers
