Bill “Honey Badger” Algeo locked up a rear naked choke with 24 seconds remaining in the second round to defeat Frank Buenafuente in a featherweight matchup and win the opening fight Saturday at the World Series of Fighting 2 at Ovation Hall at the Revel in Atlantic City, NJ.
Algeo, fighting out of State College, Penn., improved to 3-1 with three submissions, while Newark, NJ’s, Buenafuente suffered his first loss and dropped to 2-1.
“I know he’s got tough wrestling and jiu jistsu, but I know I can’t be beat at this level,” Algeo said.
Algeo hurt Buenafuente with a flying kick in the first round, but Buenafuente used his wrestling to dominate most of the round. He secured several takedowns, but never kept Algeo down.
In the second, Algeo attempted to lock up a kimura from his back and later dropped chopping elbows from side control. He took Buenafuente’s back with less than a minute to go in the round, worked his way position for the choke and forced Buenafuente to tap.Tags: mma, WSOF 2
