Woodley: Rory MacDonald & Nick Diaz ‘Are Sharing The Same Bag Of Weed’

March 7, 2014 5:54 am by Daneul Summers

In recent news former top contender Rory MacDonald stated that he believed himself deserving of the number one contender spot and first in line to face the winner of Johny Hendricks vs. Robbie Lawler for the newly abandoned UFC welterweight title. Hendricks and Lawler are set to face off on March 15 in Dallas, Texas at UFC 171.

However, as Tyron Woodley prepares for his bout with Carlos Condit, he believes himself to be way ahead of the rest in his run for welterweight gold. Especially MacDonald.

Woodley voiced his opinion further during a media scrum.

“I think Rory needs to get out of here to be honest. Carlos finished Rory. I think he has a very short memory. He got finished by Carlos and he just lost to Robbie. In the event that Carlos wins and in the event Robbie wins, what’s his stance then? He lost to both of those guys. I think this (fight against Condit) is the No. 1 contender’s bout. It goes both ways, not just of Carlos wins, also if I win. I think that makes for a great fight that fans want to see and will pay to see. I think he should have took the chance when he had it. He was ranked the third welterweight in the world, beating gatekeepers, beating the top guys, and then when it came down to fighting GSP, he didn’t want to do it. I think it’s comical that all of a sudden he’s just going to jump in front. Same with Diaz trying to jump in front. I think they’re sharing the same bag of weed.”

And they must pretty high if they believe they can cut in line.

Sure, Rory was once a very threatening force in the welterweight division. I for one thought he was going to be the next big thing. However, he very well could have missed a huge window of opportunity that might now open up like that again. In any case, with his current status, he is in no position to make any claims about being first in line for the title shot.

As for Woodley, he is set to face Condit on the undercard of Hendricks vs. Lawler at UFC 171 in March, and he very well could be correct about this bout marking a number one contender. It really all depends on how deserving the UFC deems their combatants. If Woodley is also unable to defeat “The Natural Born Killer” then we may even see him being forced to prove his worthiness against MacDonald.

First things first however, as Woodley is up for a big test with Condit.
