White Confirms Carano Deal Close, Hopes For More Progress In September

By BJPENN.COM News - August 24, 2014

With rumors circling last week that Gina Carano had signed with Bellator, UFC President Dana White explained to fans and media where he was in his quest to sign the WMMA legend to a UFC contract.

He spoke with MMAJunkie:

“It’s complicated, but I think it’s close. I had a plan, but now I don’t know. We have to see how this plays out. As I said before, I should know in September – the first week of September.””

UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey also spoke with MMAJunkie about a potential matchup against Carano.

“There are very few women that have had one-punch knockout power,” Rousey explained. “There are other girls that they overwhelm the other person. They get TKOs and stuff like that. But Gina has one-punch knockout power, and that’s the kind of person that I have to be the most cautious of. That’s the style that’s the worst for me, and ever since the beginning, I’ve been positive that Gina is the worst style matchup for me.”
