Werdum: ‘Cain’s Injury Withdrawal Just Strategy’

WERDUM VELASQUEZ

“Cain Velasquez is very experienced, he is always walking forward and mixes his boxing with his wrestling very well” He told Portal do Vale Tudo. “He’s very conditioned. To be honest, I don’t think his last injury was that serious, I think it was more of a strategy. I don’t think he wasn’t able to walk or had to go under emergency surgery. It’s just my opinion, nobody told me that. I think he did it in order to slow me down a little because he saw I really wanted it. And I still do”.

Heavyweights Fabricio Werdum and Cain Velasquez were scheduled to fight for the championship at UFC 180. However, Velasquez was forced to pull out of the bout due to a leg injury. Even though he had surgery on his leg, Werdum told Portal Do Vale Tudo believes the injury wasn’t serious and that it was just a strategy.

Velasquez is not a man of many words and will likely prove whether or not Werdum’s words are right through his performance in the octagon. UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez is once again set to defend his title against interim champion Fabricio Werdum at UFC 188 on June 13th.
