Werdum Believes He Can Finish Velasquez If Given Title Shot

By Chris Taylor - October 17, 2013

UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) is one of the best jiu-jitsu practitioners in the MMA game.

Werdum most recently fought at June’s ‘UFC on FUEL TV’ event in Brazil, where he submitted former UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Fabricio is currently riding a three-fight win streak and is aiming for a title shot against the winner of this weekends UFC 166 main event. Werdum would like to get his revenge on JDS, who knocked him out at UFC 90 in 2008, but if that doesn’t pan out, he would happily settle for submitting Velasquez:

“I want the belt, but Cain Velasquez is a good fight for me too, because he takes down guys, and if he takes me down, for sure I’m finishing him. I’ll try for sure, I know it’s a hard fight. He has good conditioning.”
