Chael Sonnen has never been Brazil’s favorite fighter. With Sonnen’s constant berating of Brazilian MMA Legends Anderson Silva, the Nogueira brothers, and Wanderlei Silva, saying he is disliked by Brazilian fans is an understatement.
Since it was announced that Sonnen would be coaching on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, many thought he may be in danger when he steps foot on Brazilian soil.
Dana White has even said he will hire extra security for the three-time, two-division UFC title challenger.
Silva though, who coaches opposite Sonnen, has confirmed that Sonnen will be safe.
“He’ll be 100 percent safe,” Silva said. “Just one guy is going to beat him, and this guy is me. Nobody is going to touch you. Brazil is different.”
While many have dismissed Sonnen’s comments as mere jokes, Silva sees it differently.
“It’s a joke for you, but it’s not a joke for me and not for my country,” he said. “I don’t like fake people. I don’t like jokes. I don’t like guys who talk stupid things about me, and when you say [those things], you’re going to need to pay.”
“But don’t worry [Sonnen] . You’re going to be safe. But you’re going to pay for that account in June.”
