Ten days ago, fans witnessed Vitor Belfort’s destruction of Pride Fighting Championships two division champion Dan Henderson, and contrary to many fans beliefs, Testosterone Replacement Treatment will not be a factor.
The annihilation of Henderson, took a mere 77 seconds, a match-up being the first of its kind where both fighters had obtained TRT exemptions. The knock out Henderson suffered was his first of his long, illustrious career.
When asked about TRT, Belfort had this to say:
“My (testosterone) levels were low in my last fight,” Belfort told MMAFighting.com during a media scrum in his gym in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “I have all the exams to prove that I have a disease. It’s simple.”
Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission’s medical director Dr. Marcio Tannure has stated that one of Belfort’s pre-fight test was below the normal limits, which would be considered “legal”.
When questioned about Belfort’s initial use of TRT, the timeframe fits into his title fight with former longtime Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva, three years ago at UFC 126 in Las Vegas, Nevada. A match-up in which Belfort lost by way of a devastating front kick to the face.
“When was that fight? I don’t remember when I started my treatment, actually,” he said. “But I believe it was around that time.”
The former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion and Heavyweight tournament champ believes strongly that he would be granted a TUE for TRT in case he is named the next opponent for the winner of Chris Weidman vs Anderson Silva in Las Vegas, where he has not competed since losing to Silva.
If Vitor’s testosterone levels were low against Henderson, It’s a frightening thought to envision “The Phenom” once the levels are correct.Tags: Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen, Chris Weidman, Dan Henderson, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, ufc news, ufc results, Vitor Belfort
