“My time is going to come. I’ve only been doing this for three years. I’ve got 11 fights into my career. I’ve got plenty of time. That belt’s going to be mine sooner or later. It’s just hurry up and wait … I think with my wrestling credentials, my strength, my athleticism, I don’t think he’s faced anybody like that yet. And for me to get in there, put him on his back and take him out of his comfort zone, I think that’s going to be key to beating a guy like that. He’s the guy that everyone looks at as unbeatable, and he’s got this hype around him like no one can beat him. I want to be the guy to get in there and take that belt from him.”
In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Team Alpha Male featherweight stand-out, Chad Mendes talks about his eventual UFC title shot that should be knocking at his door in the very near future.
Mendes could have faced Aldo in the place of Florian this past weekend, and all the talk would, at this point be put aside, however, the undefeated prospect opted to take another fight sooner in order to stay active and did not want to wait for an Aldo injury recovery to return to the cage.
Now that Aldo is back and healthy, there is really only one contender out there for him, and that is Chad “Money” Mendes. He last beat the highly regarded Rani Yahya at UFC 133 and will hope to book this title fight in the coming weeks.
His wrestling background is extensive. In his collegiate career he was the NCAA’s number one nationally ranked 141 pounder. He is a two-time All American and has received the Pac-10 wrestler of the year honors.
But can he hold Aldo down and control him for five-rounds? What are your thoughts BJPENN.COM?
