The UFC has plans to set up a fight for next year for a title elimination due to UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez being injured.
UFC President Dana White stated today that the winner of Josh Barnett (33-6 MMA, 5-1 UFC) vs. Travis Browne (15-1-1 MMA, 6-1-1 UFC) will face off against the extremely dangerous Brazilian Fabricio Werdum (17-5-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC).
During a news conference for the upcoming UFC 168 event, White stated that there is not a set schedule for this bout to take place, only that it would all depend on the health of the winner of Barnett vs Browne.
The two are set to face off on this Saturday’s UFC 168 card, only on pay-per-view. UFC 168 is set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.
UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez (13-1 MMA, 11-1 UFC) is currently recovering from a torn labrum he received during his title defense against Junior Dos Santos during UFC 166 last October.
The Champ recently had surgery for his injury. He is expected to be out for up to three months according to his camp, however recent reports expect even longer, as long as even the majority of 2014.
Though Dana was vague about his intentions with the Heavyweight title it seems that the champ going under the knife has the UFC making some moves.
This information is sure to not sit well with Werdum who has been waiting awhile for his shot against the champ. Werdum submitted Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira last June and has been awaiting his shot at the title since.
