The first fight on the FX Televised main card for the ultimate fighter 16 finale showcased two young featherweight prospects, Dustin Poirier vs. Jonathan Brookins. These two battled it out going blow for blow on the feet with both fighters connecting and rocking each other.
They traded punches back and forth until Poirier was able to get Brookins on the ground and in Poirier’s favorite hold, the D’arce choke. The D’arce choke, also known as the Brabo choke, is similar to the Anaconda choke. The difference is that the choking arm is thread under the near arm, in front of the opponent’s neck and on top of the far arm.
Poirier had the chokehold in deep and Brookins could not escape, earning a 1st round tap out victory for the young prospect, Dustin Poirier. This was the same move that ended Poirier’s last fight 7 months ago when he fought against the “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung. The difference this time is Poirier was not the one tapping, he lost to the Korean Zombie in a fight that was awarded the “fight of the Night” bonus.
Poirier is only 23 years old and holds a professional MMA record of 13-2 with his win against Brookins. This should put all the featherweights in the UFC on notice because Dustin Poirier is good, real good. Poirier is an exciting young fighter with great wrestling, great submissions, and with the one punch knockout power he is sure to be in the mix for a title shot in 2013.Tags: Dustin Poirier vs. Jonathan Brookins, mma, MMA NEWS, The Ultimate Fighter, TUF, TUF 16 Finale, tuf finale, ufc, ufc news, UFC on FX, ufc results
