Now, I’ll be first to admit that whenever we have a list of newly signed UFC fighters, it can sometimes read more like a “who’s that” list, rather than a “who’s who” list. But this time around, we have some very solid fighters that are worth keeping both eyes on.
First on that list is lightweight Mairbek Taisumov, who joins the UFC by way of Austria. Taisumov is still fairly young at 25 years of age, but he’s already compiled an impressive record of 20-4. That record is even more impressive when you realize that not a single one of his wins came by way of judges decision.
That’s right, ladies and gentlemen – every “W” he’s earned, he’s earned it by way of knock out, TKO, or submission. Let’s hope that he continues that streak, now that he’s in the big leagues of the UFC.
The next fighter on the list will actually be Taisumov’s first opponent: lightweight South Korean fighter, Tae Hyun Bang. Bang owns a slightly less-impressive record at 16-7, although to his credit, some of those losses came by way of stiff competition. Takanori Gomi and Jorge Masvidal are just two of the fighters who make up those 7 losses.
Bang has had a few long layoffs in his MMA career, so it’s hard to say with any certainty just how much success we can expect him to have. He has decent striking skills, but his attacks can be few and far-between, as he waits for opportunities to land counter-punches.
Last but in no way least is Russian Combat Sambo national champion, Zubair Tuhugov. This featherweight Chechen loves to stand and trade, showing off some crisp striking, quick head movement and decent power. And if the stand up fight isn’t going his way, he resorts to what brought him to the dance – world-class sambo skills and overwhelming power in the clinch.
Tuhugov is currently riding an impressive 15-3 MMA record; even more impressive when you realize that all 18 of those fights happened in the last 3 years. A busy fighter to say the least, Tuhugov will need to draw from all of his recent experience, as he’s scheduled to collide with the always-dangerous Thiago Tavares in his debut fight, taking place at UFC Fight Night 36.
