The UFC announced plans recently to create a digital, subscription based network to broadcast events. The reason for this plan involves the UFC’s international expansion and the fact that they will be broadcasting more events than usual in the future.
The UFC’s Chief Content Officer Marshall Zelaznik went on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour to discuss some of the new features of the service, and helped to explain the UFC’s reasoning to go along with this new venture.
“One of the things we’re trying to do is get hyper focused on all the content that’s being distributed and created for not only the US market, but for the international markets,” Zelaznik said.
Zelaznik added, “[We’re] looking at how quickly this whole world of content delivery is changing and making sure that we are instep with what is happening in this space.”
Zelaznik also outlined some of the features of the new network, saying that the price of the subscription service will be similar to the prices of other services, such as Hulu and Netflix.
International fight nights will run live on the network, as well as other live content including from US shows, he added.
Subscribers will also have access to Zuffa’s entire library, including Pride FC, UFC, Strikeforce fights and more.
