UFC Removes Matt Grice from UFC 166 Following Car Accident and Hospitalization

It was reported Monday that UFC featherweight fighter, Matt Grice, was hospitalized following a serious car accident Sunday night.  Doctors performed surgery on Grice Sunday night, and he has been listed in critical condition.  As Grice was due to fight at UFC 166 in October, the UFC was forced to pull his fight from the card.

The UFC was forced to remove a featherweight card between Matt Grice and Jeremy Larsen from the UFC 166 event on October 19.

Grice (15-5) suffered injuries from a serious car accident Sunday night in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He was rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery; since then, he has been in critical condition.

Grice serves as an Oklahoma City police officer.  The department issued a statement Monday regarding their officer.

On Sunday, Sept 8th, at approximately 4pm off-duty Officer Matthew Grice 9age 32) was involved in a serious multi-car accident in Shawnee, OK (accident investigated by Oklahoma Highway Patrol).  The accident left him in critical condition.

Officer Grice was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital, where his status is currently listed as confidential.  The Grice family has asked for privacy as they deal with this sudden and unfortunate situation.

A friend of Grice, Daniel Rubenstein, has tweeted updates of the fighter’s condition.  Monday night, he announced that “Matt is still sedated.  Pupils reacting to light.  Another catscan planned for tonight sometime.  Matt’s wife went home to be with their girls.

The UFC also published a statement.

The UFC sends its thoughts and prayers to featherweight Matt Grice, who was involved in a serious auto accident over the weekend in his native Oklahoma that required surgery.  Grice is currently in the intensive care unite and more details on his condition will be posted as they are received.
