Carlos Condit, the consistently top ranking UFC welterweight, seems to have gotten the short end of the stick when Georges St. Pierre decided to relinquish his title and walk away from the sport.
Although Condit lost a controversial decision to contender Johny Hendricks, and lost a competitive unanimous decision to St. Pierre, many thought Condit was the man who would face Hendricks for the vacant UFC welterweight title.
Condit was set to fight Matt Brown today before Brown pulled out of the fight due to a back injury, but the UFC says they have plans for the former interim welterweight champion.
UFC President Dana White confirmed that the UFC would be showcasing Condit in a “new direction,” and said that Condit would probably compete on the UFC 171 card, which is the same card which Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler are set to fight for the vacant welterweight title.
White confirmed that due to Brown’s back injury, the UFC have a plan in mind for what to do with “The Natural Born Killer.”
White also said that his UFC 171 opponent will most likely not be Brown. Condit, BJPENN.COM’S 4th ranked welterweight on the planet, is likely one or two impressive victories away from another title shot.
UFC 171 is set for March 15, 2014 in Dallas, Texas.
