| What an amazing way to end the night for the UFC in Brazil! These two heavyweights went to war but, much like the rest of the fights on tonight’s fight card, the fight didn’t last long. Fabricio Werdum walks away from tonight’s bout against Big Nog with an impressive submission victory via arm-bar in the 2nd round. The fight raises many questions regarding what is next for Fabricio.
The fight began with a nice throw from Werdum that was followed by crazy sick scrambles between the two men which eventually landed Werdum into the guard of Nogueira. He would get nothing from it though as Nog would come back up and Werdum looked a little bit tired. Nogueira started taking control of the pace, landing nice strikes with clean boxing, good faints, and stiff punches. He also won the battle in the clinch. It started seeming as if Werdum had something wrong with him as he looked toward the clock more than one time during the opening round.
The second round saw Big Nog press the pace and both men landed good combos, with Werdum especially landing several hard leg-kicks. Big Nog went for a standing guillotine but gave up a takedown in the process. Nogueira continues to create scrambles and work for escapes until Werdum Latched onto one of Big Nog’s arms and stretched it until Noguiera’s arm was fully extended and Nogueira verbally submitted.
Werdum claimed the victory over Nogueira via arm-bar submission and notched his third consecutive victory inside the UFC octagon. Werdum, who was ranked #5 in the world coming into tonight’s bout, will likely place himself very close to a title shot. It will be interesting to see what the organization will do with Fabricio Werdum next considering Velasquez and Dos Santos are scheduled to fight for the heavyweight strap next.
