Another card flying under the radar delivers for the UFC following a great evening of fights on UFC on FUEL TV 10: Nogueira vs Werdum in Fortaleza, Brazil. The event served as the TUF Brazil 2 finale, with the main event seeing a showdown of two heavyweight submission specialist’s as Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira faced off against rival TUF coach, Fabricio Werdum. What became a record-setting night of submissions for the UFC, with an amazing 10 subs, the biggest winner of the evening was Thiago Silva with a huge KO finish of Rafael “Feijao” Calvacante.
The bout between Rafael “Feijao” and Thiago Silva stole the show as a back-and-forth brawl between two big brazilian sluggers. “Feijao” mounted his offense early slipping the shots of Silva and landing big counters of his own. Silva was clearly hurt during the first 3 minutes of the bout, but the Blackzilian trained fighter rallied back landing big left hooks followed by an uppercut that crippled Calvacante against the cage. Silva will take home a cool 100k for being the only finish by KO, and snatching FOTN for coming back after a heavy onslaught to win at 4:29 of the first round.
Submission of the night goes to former Shooto champion and true student of the game, Erick Silva. Silva, who was coming off the hard-fought loss to Jon Fitch, dominated Jason High when the fight hit the canvas soon after the bell. Erik Silva stuffed a shot from High, and transitioned to the back, then beautifully took an arm bar in the Russian style. High attempted to defend but Silva wisely rolled Jason High through with the sub, breaking his grip to get the tap. Erik Silva takes home 50k for the brilliant display of BJJ with a first round arm bar.
