The first round was playing out like many thought the fight would go with Johnson showcasing plenty of movement and speed while Benavidez looked for the power blast.
But it was Johnson who turned the tables when he saw an opening midway through the second round. landed a massive right hand for the KO and ended the fight at 2:08 in the first round.
Saturday’s fight was a rematch. In their first bout at UFC 152 in September, 2012, Johnson edged Benavidez by split decision in the 125-pound tournament final to become the division’s inaugural champion.
It was the fastest KO in UFC flyweight history and the first time Benavidez has been stopped.Tags: Chad Mendes, Dana White, Danny Castillo, Demetrious Johnson, Duane Ludwig, Joe Lauzon, Joseph B, Joseph Benavidez, mac danzig, Michael McDonald, mma, MMA NEWS, Nick Lentz, ufc, ufc news, UFC on FOX, UFC on FOX 9, UFC on FOX Sports 1, Urijah Faber
