Urijah Faber showed there is plenty of fight left in this old dog.
The 34-year-old Faber got his 15th career win by submission when he tapped 22-year-old Michael McDonald in the second round of the co-main event of UFC on Fox 9: Johnson vs. Benavidez 2 held in Sacramento, Cali.
In the first round, Faber scored an early takedown and worked from inside McDonald’s guard for the bulk of the first three minutes of the round. Herb Dean stood the fight up with just under two minutes to go. Faber continued to press the action and landed a solid right and then a left in the final 15 seconds of the round.
Faber dropped a big right hand in the early portion of second that stunned McDonald. Faber continued to perplex McDonald, who seemed content looking for the big shot. Faber landed a right to the temple then rushed and swarmed McDonald and landed two more rights. Faber then slapped on a guillotine and got the tap with 1:23 left in the second round.
The win improved Faber to 30-6. McDonald dropped to 16-3.
The victory looked to insure another title shot for Faber.
