UFC Officials Make ‘UFC 163: Aldo vs. Pettis’ Official For Rio de Janeiro

Ultimate Fighting Championship featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Anthony Pettis will be making a trip to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 3.

Aldo (22-1) will defend his belt against Pettis (16-2) at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro for UFC 163: Aldo vs. Pettis. UFC officials announced the fight this past Saturday at the UFC on FX 8: Belfort vs. Rockhold post-fight press conference.

Aldo is on a 15-fight-win streak and was the final World Extreme Cagefighting featherweight champion. He last defended his UFC featherweight belt against Frankie Edgar in February at UFC 156: Aldo vs. Edgar via unanimous decision.

Pettis, who is the former WEC lightweight champion, is on a 3-fight-win streak. He won the last 3-of-his-4 fights in the UFC. He last defeated Donald Cerrone via kick to the body knockout in the first round at UFC on Fox 6: Johnson vs. Dodson in January. Pettis will drop from the lightweight division to face Aldo for the featherweight belt.

The other fight that is confirmed for UFC 163 is a welterweight battle between Demian Maia (18-4) and Josh Koscheck  (17-7).
