UFC Officials Confirm Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen II for June in Brazil

During last weekends UFC 143 media frenzy, UFC officials announced that the middleweight rematch between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva has been agreed upon by all parties for a yet to be announced event set for June in Brazil.

The middleweight champion, Anderson Silva made an appearance in Las Vegas for UFC 143 and UFC President Dana White confirmed that while in town a deal for the bout was reached.

The two middleweights originally faced off in a now infamous contest back in 2010 at UFC 117. In the five-round title fight, Sonnen was able to use effective wrestling to keep the champion on his back for nearly four and a half rounds. However his dominance didn’t last and he was forced to tap to a triangle choke midway through the final round.

Shortly after the original bout Sonnen received a suspension from the California State Athletic Commission for elevated levels of testosterone in his blood.

Once his suspension was up the outspoken middleweight has done everything he can to book the rematch with Anderson Silva. Insults and challenges in various forms have flooded the MMA media ever since their first bout, but most important, Sonnen has been winning fights.

The “Oregon Gangster” most recently saw action during the UFC on FOX 2 co-main event in a three-round war with Michael Bisping. Sonnen was able to edge “The Count” on the judges’ scorecards to earn his rematch with Anderson Silva.

Silva has not seen action since his August, 2011 title defense against Yushin Okami. The win marked his ninth middleweight title defense and his fourteenth straight UFC win. He is widely considered the best Mixed Martial Artist of all-time.
