UFC NEWS | UFC Books MGM Grand For Memorial Day Show

February 12, 2013 12:07 pm by Kinch

UFC officials have booked the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to host their annual Memorial Day Pay-Per View event on May 25th, 2013. What is presumed to be UFC 160, is expected to feature a full card of 12 bouts, and could possibly be headlined by heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez defending his title against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Also rumored to be on the card, is a heavyweight grudge-match between Junior “Cigano” Dos Santos and Alistair “The Reem” Overeem.

Although, the UFC has yet to announce any fights officially for the card, and the NSAC has yet to officially approve the promotions request for the event. NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer did however confirm the request via email with MMAjunkie. Given the positive relationship the UFC maintains with the NSAC, one would assume that approval of the card is a no-brainer.

The UFC has consistently put together impressive fight cards on Memorial Day weekend for several years now. Some of the notable bouts include our own B.J. Penn against Sean Sherk at UFC 84 for the lightweight title, as well as Junior Dos Santos vs. Frank Mir at UFC 146 for the heavyweight strap. The event would mark the UFC’s 7th consecutive event on the holiday weekend, and if the rumored heavyweight bouts come to fruition, it would mark the 5th title match to be booked for the annual card. No other bouts have been rumored for the event, and as of this moment, nothing is official.
