UFC officials took to twitter this afternoon to announce yet another fighter injury resulting in a change of card.
Erik Koch has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Dustin Poirier with an undisclosed injury suffered in training.
UFC officials stated that they will keep Poirier on the card and a replacement opponent is currently being sought after.
UFC 143 is expected to take place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Super Bowl weekend. Georges St. Pierre will be the headliner against his newest title challenger Nick Diaz.
Koch made his UFC debut back at UFC 128 with a first-round knockout of Rafael Assuncao that put the rest of the division on notice. He then went on to outpoint Jonathan Brookins at UFC Fight Night 25 in his last UFC performance.
Poirier burst onto the scene when he took out the former number one contender Josh Grispi at UFC 125. After a successful debut that derailed the title hopes of Grispi he has looked unstoppable, notching wins over Jason Young and most recently Pablo Garza in his last performance at UFC on Fox 1.
Trying to be his own personal matchmaker, Poirier took to twitter shortly after the announcement asking to fight “The Korean Zombie”.
