UFC officials today announced that Mike Brown (25-8 MMA, 1-3 UFC) would be facing off against Vagner Rocha (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at the upcoming UFC on FX 1 event which is set to take place on January 20th at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The night’s fight card will be headlined by a lightweight scrap between Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller.
Mike Brown, who is the former WEC featherweight champion and is best known for besting Urijah Faber twice, will be looking to build off of his unanimous-decision win over Nam Phan at this past August’s UFC 133 event. That victory helped Brown snap a two-fight losing skid that made many question his ability to ever regain his previous dominance in the weight class. Brown is currently trying to break through a current 3-4 run and a win over Rocha would be just the thing to get him back on track to another run at title contention.
His opponent, fellow featherweight Vagner Rocha, will be looking for his second UFC victory. He’ll be coming in fresh off of a UFC Fight Night 25 submission win over TUF alum Cody McKenzie. The victory was a sigh of relief for Rocha, who suffered a unanimous-decision loss to Donald Cerrone in his UFC debut. He will now look to move to 2-1 in the UFC with a win over Brown on January 20th.
This is a huge fight for both men as they try to build off of their previous wins in an effort to ascend the featherweight ladder in hopes of reaching the top tier with the likes of Aldo and Mendes in the near future. This will be a massive test for both men as their styles will surely make for an impressive and exciting bout.featured, MMA NEWS, Strikeforce, strikeforce news, ufc news
