Injuries are not uncommon in the world of mixed martial arts. While many unfortunate circumstances such as Rashad Evans’s hand injury take a great fighter out of a great fight, rarely do we see an injury lead to the new addition of an exciting fighter.
However in this case, the unfortunate injury of Canadian native, T.J. Grant, has given The Ultimate Fighter season 8 winner, Efrain Escudero, a second chance at UFC stardom. BJPenn.com spoke earlier today with Escudero and has confirmed that he is slated to replace Grant and fight Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141.
“I am Happy to be back in the UFC”, Efrain told BJPENN.COM
After suffering defeat by the hands of Charles Oliveira at UFC Fight Night 22: Marquardt vs. Palhares and subsequently being released by the UFC, Escudero worked hard to win five out of his last six fights in other organizations. Most recently, Escudero had a victory against Cesar Avila at Bellator 55.
Escudero is in top form as he was already scheduled to fight Jeff Rexroad on Dec. 16th at Legacy Fighting Championship 9. With good graces from lady luck, Escudero now finds himself against Volkmann who is undefeated as a lightweight in the UFC.
The UFC is known to use the uncertainty of job security as a motivational tool for its fighters. As Escudero was cut losing 2 of his last 3 UFC fights (despite a positive record of 3-2) the UFC definitely follows the mantra of “what have you done for me lately?” to the fullest extent. With a second opportunity to fight in the world’s greatest stage for MMA, hopefully Escudero will succeed and show the fans and the organization that he deserves to stay.
