A lightweight bout has been added to next month’s Strikeforce show in the form of Bobby Green vs. Alonzo Martinez.
Strikeforce officials announced the matchup this morning.
“Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine” is set to go down on January 7 from The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas Nevada. In the main event, Luke Rockhold will attempt to defend his middleweight title for the first time against the crafty MMA veteran, Keith Jardine. The Main card airs for free on Showtime and the preliminary portion of the evening is set to air on Showtime Extreme.
Green is a former KOTC champ, who, upon making his Strikeforce debut suffered a close split-decision loss to top prospect Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante. After notching his first defeat for the promotion he went on to the Challengers series where he successfully took out Charon Spain and J.P. Reese in his last two outings. He was won six of his last eight fights.
Martinez looks to make his Strikeforce debut after a nine year career in the field. The Titan Fighting and Bellator veteran will enter the Strikeforce cage riding high on an 8-1 run and looks to make an immediate impact in the Strikeforce lightweight division.
