Two lightweight fighters have simultaneously dropped to the featherweight division and agreed to face each other in their 145 pound debut.
Charles Oliveira will meet Eric Wisely at the UFC’s return trip to network television.
UFC on FOX 2 is set to go down from Chicago’s United Center on January 28 live on FOX TV. In the main event, Phil Davis will square off with Rashad Evans for the number one contender seat in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division ruled over by Jon Jones. The co-feature of the evening is a middleweight number one contender bout between Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen.
Oliveira was widely considered one of the UFC’s top lightweight prospects, however after going 2-2-1 inside the Octagon he now takes the trip down a division to see if he can make a bigger impact.
Wisely holds wins over UFC veterans such as Hermes Franca and Matt Veach, however his highest profile fight to date was a loss under the Strikeforce banner to Pat “Bam Bam” Healy this past August. Since losing to Healy he took to the regional circuit and picked up a victory giving him a 4-1 record in his last five outings and earning a spot with the UFC.
The bout is expected to be part of the FUEL TV preliminary card.
The latest UFC on FOX 2 card includes:
Phil Davis vs. Rashad Evans
Mark Munoz vs. Chael Sonnen
Evan Dunham vs. Paul Sass
Charles Oliveira vs. Eric Wisely
Michael Johnson vs. Cody McKenzie
Jon Olav Einemo vs. Mike Russow
