Earlier this week we reported here at BJPENN.COM that the UFC on FOX 2 bout between Eddie Wineland and Johnny Bedford had been scratched due to a Wineland injury that has left him unable to compete.
The UFC matchmaking department went to work and found a suitable replacement in the form of UFC newcomer Mitch Gagnon.
UFC on FOX 2 is set to go down from Chicago’s United Center on January 28 live on FOX TV.
In the main event, Phil Davis will square off with Rashad Evans for the number one contender seat in the UFC’s light-heavyweight division ruled over by Jon Jones. The co-feature of the evening is a middleweight number one contender bout between Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen. Also featured on the card is a middleweight bout with serious title implications between Michael Bisping and Damian Maia.
Gagnon is a Canadian based fighter who last saw action this past October under the Ringside MMA banner. He brings into his UFC debut an 8-1 professional MMA record with all eight wins coming by submission. His lone loss, suffered in 2009, was via decision.
Bedford was last seen scoring a third round TKO over fellow “Ultimate Fighter” 14 cast member Louis Gaudinot. The “TUF” semifinalist is now 7-1 in his last eight professional outings with five of those wins coming via stoppage.
