After picking apart a very game Jeremy Stephens, Donald Cerrone is ready to jump back in the octagon, sooner then some may think. Following the UFC on Fuel TV 3 win, Cerrone is ready to jump on the Denver fight card at UFC 150 in August.
In his previous fight Cerrone was defeated by Nate Diaz and is somewhat still coping with the feelings after such a tough loss and was looking to get back to the basics Tuesday night.
“Definitely coming off that last fight sucked, mainly going out there and having fun was what tonight was about.” Said Cerrone, following the Stephens fight. “It was just trying to do what I do and have fun like I do in the gym.”
Tuesday night Cerrone did just that, picked apart Stephens and utilized his jab pretty much the whole fight. He out struck and dominated the entire bout and went home a winner via Unanimous Decision.
Still, “Cowboy” feels that he has more to prove and work on.
“I’m slowly making the steps. I wish I would have attacked on the ground a little bit better.”
Some think Cerrone may be on the road to an eventual title shot, but Cerrone is nowhere near looking past future opponents and is ready for whatever Dana White and UFC match makers throw at him. When asked about his next opponent, a reporter threw out a possible future bout with UFC lightweight star Anthony Pettis.
“That’d be a good match-up. Stylistically it would work out perfectly for me, he will stand and want to fight, try to take me down, and then ill beat him up. We’ll keep fighting. It’d be a good fight, especially for Denver.”
Pettis is the former WEC lightweight champ and would make an excellent opponent for the enthusiastic Cerrone.
Let’s see if Dana allows this fight to go down in Denver.Tags: featured, MMA NEWS, Strikeforce, strikeforce news, ufc news, UFC on FOX, UFC on FOX 2, ufc on fox 3, UFC on Fuel, UFC on FX
