Last Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 25 in New Orleans did fairly well ratings wise. The event drew an average of 1.8 million viewers (a 1.2 household rating) and peaked with nearly 1.95 million viewers on Spike TV, officials announced today. Unsurprisingly the event was the number one rated program on cable in its timeslot among men 18-34. The broadcast also ranked second to ESPN’s NCAA college-football broadcast among men 18-49. With such names as Jake Shields and Court McGee gracing the card these ratings are just a testament to how much the sport is still growing and gaining popularity.
The night of fights took place at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The night’s main card aired on Spike TV, and the preliminary card streamed for free on Facebook.
The night’s main card saw Jake Ellenberger upset fellow welterweight and former number one contender Jake Shields in the very first round with a surprising KO in their main event bout. The co-headliner saw Court McGee score a decision victory over Dongi Yang.
The two-hour Spike TV broadcast began with 1.4 million viewers for Alan Belcher’s impressive win over Jason MacDonald and saw the viewership gradually climb all the way to the main event of the night. The ratings were down just a little bit compared to the year’s other UFC Fight Night events. UFC Fight Night 23 drew 1.85 million viewers in January, and UFC Fight Night 24 drew 2.2 million in March. Regardless, the numbers prove a successful night for the UFC and a pleasing night for fight fans across the country.
