UFC Champion Daniel Cormier Taking A Break From Competition

By BJPENN.COM News - October 14, 2015

UFC’s light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier says that all he knows right now is that he’s taking a break.

Cormier is coming off of a war with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192, where he successfully defended his belt for the first time. In 2015 alone, Cormier fought three of the best fighters in the division with Jon Jones, Anthony Johnson and then Gustafsson. He’s fought seven times in two years and thinks right now he just needs to take a little bit of a break, especially since the UFC has yet to announce what the plan is for Jon Jones.

So while he waits for that to play out, he’s just gonna chill.

“I have no idea (when Jones will be back); all I know is that I’m taking a break. In 2015, I fought Jones, I fought ‘Rumble’ Johnson, and I fought Alexander Gustafsson. I fought the toughest guys the division has to offer – all in 10 months, at 36 years old. I need a little bit of a break. I fought seven times in two years in the UFC. I need some time to sit back and spend with my family. … I want to take a break, and I think I’ve earned it.”
