UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman recently helped out his 92-year-old neighbor in a big way.

Weidman was on his way to pick up a training partner from LaGuardia Airport on a rainy Thursday morning when he heard what sounded like “an animal dying.”

Chris saw a figure two houses down and assumed he was watching one-half of a really bad couple’s fight. But, the champ got a weird feeling in his stomach and turned his car the opposite way. Then he discovered the woman.

“She’s in the middle of the driveway, soaking wet, yelling, ‘Help me, help me!’” Weidman told MMAjunkie. “So I jump out of my car and run over, and she’s completely engulfed in blood. I’m trying to calm her down at the same time,” he said. “She’s making crazy noises. I felt I almost had a fighter between rounds. One thing she said to me was, ‘All I wanted to do was live one more year,’” remembers Weidman, who encouraged her as the two waited for an ambulance.

He doesn’t know what became the woman, but said his cop friend will check up on her. On Thursday afternoon, his wife posted his picture on Instagram and told his story, finished with a hashtag, “myhero.”

“I was just lucky to be there – that’s it,” Weidman said.
