UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta believes that 2015 may indeed be the year MMA gets legalized in the State of New York.

“Speaker Heastie has long been a sponsor and strong supporter of the bill to have New York join the 49 other states that legalize and regulate MMA,” Lorenzo said in a statement to Channel 2 WGRZ. “We are cautiously optimistic that 2015 is the year that New York’s huge UFC fan base will have the opportunity to see some incredible live events from Brooklyn to Buffalo.”

This new-found optimism comes on the heels of a recent shuffling of the guard in New York politics.
