Originally slated to co-main event UFC Fight Night 35, Ovince St. Preux vs. Thiago Silva has officially been added to UFC 171. UFC 171 is scheduled to take place on March 15, 2014 in Dallas Texas.
Ovince St. Preux commanded attention while fighting for former employers at Strikeforce. He was victorious in five of his six bouts with the promotion and was brought over to the UFC after Strikeforce was bought out by Zuffa. He made a successful debut against Gian Villante at UFC 159 and went on to knock out Cody Donovan in August at a fight night event. St. Preux is a promising prospect and a fight with a veteran like Thiago Silva will test his potential in such a stacked division.
Thiago Silva pulled out of the fight twenty-four hours after it was originally announced for UFC Fight Night 35. Neither Silva’s camp or the UFC divulged on what the injury was, so it is believed to not be a serious one.
Silva is coming fresh off a decision victory over Matt Hamill and a knockout victory over Rafael Cavalcante.
Neither fighter is currently ranked by the UFC, but that could change if the victor wins in impressive fashion.
Jake Shields vs. Hector Lombard was also recently added to UFC 171.
