The American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in San Jose, California, is one of the premier MMA training centers in the world. Not only do they house the UFC Heavyweight champion, but they also have the likes of Gray Maynard, Josh Thomson, Luke Rockhold, Daniel Cormier and many other great fighters in their ranks.

Part of what makes this team so special is the dedication and direction provided by the AKA founder and head coach, Javier Mendez.

In a recent interview with The Bleacher Report, Javier discussed tonight’s main event between Junior dos Santos and his champion, Cain Velasquez.

“This fight is extremely important because of what it means, the trilogy. This is probably the greatest trilogy in UFC history, and it’s the heavyweights, the king of kings,” said Mendez.

“It’s extremely important and Cain is so motivated to (keep) that title and to put a stamp on that last win to say that wasn’t a fluke, it’s going to happen again. He’s prepared to do what he did last time for five grueling rounds,” he continued.

“It’s not important that he finishes Junior, what’s important is that he goes out and he gets that win in dominating fashion. That’s what’s important to him, to get that win.”

“I see the fight playing out more or less like that last one; different type of scenario but same type of thing. The pressure is on and Junior is doing his best to try and finish Cain. That’s the only way Junior can win is to try to finish him. He’s not going to win a decision; he’s not going to win a round.”
